September 11th Aftermath

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures upon earth where terrorists can destroy, and where Osama and al-Qaida break in and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where terrorists cannot destroy, and where Osama and al-Qaida cannot break in and steal.”

The recent events of September 11 magnify the unpredictability of life in general and man’s constant striving to accumulate wealth. During that one moment in history, lives and fortunes were lost. Events beyond our control intervened in our history and disrupted everything. Practically, no one was left unscathed to some extent, not only in the United States but worldwide. Our lives will never be the same because of the evils that lurk around us.

Now, pause for just a minute or two. I don’t want to lessen the tragedy of September 11 but, “How was life different before September 11 as compared to now?” I really don’t see any difference. Life is still unpredictable. I am still working vigorously at obtaining more…how about you? Lives and fortunes are lost every day but most don’t make the headlines. Events beyond our control always enter our lives. Evil has always been around and our lives are always changing.

I think we become so earthly minded that we become heavenly useless. September 11 has shocked reality back into our existence to acknowledge that we are nothing without God, we should be heavenly focused and to remind us where the real treasure is.
